Biography

This is the bit where I'm meant to say a little about myself......So! where do I begin? I was born in the town of Coleraine and came from a family of one girl and five boys, to which one of the boys is my twin.

My father bought me my first guitar at the age of twelve years old to the value of two pounds and 10 shillings from a man at the end of our street and having no interest in soccer and having a love of music I began to practice a few chords from a book I had borrowed. After eventually mastering these I picked up a few more from various musicians who were playing on the scene at the time, one name that comes to mind was Danny Stewart who took the time to strum and play a few chords to show me the basics. Danny and I have throughout the years remainded close friends.

Then at the age of 15, I started at two peice group with a friend who I was chumming about with at the time. His name was Keith Millar who was a piano player, now playing with Eamon McCann.

We started out playing in the local bars, social clubs and halls at the weekends and called ourselves Hy-Tyde and from this we continued to play for the next several years but as all good things must come to an end at some point, we decided to move on and I had the opportunity of going onto play with a band called Country Jamboree as the lead guitarist. Having toured and played with them for quite some time, I decided to take the plunge and start a two piece group called KG Country. The group did well and we played alot of roadshows and had quite a few regular spots on Radio North at the time.

Years passed and as all musicians do, I gathered up my gear, guitar case in hand and formed a new band called Freight Train and we were renowned for playing American Country, Four years passed and guess what!!!! I moved on again!!!!

This time I joined the backing band of Fiddling Tom Cameron and toured all with Billy McFarland, Sheila Barry, Joe e Hamilton in Country roadshows travelling all over Ireland, Scotland & England.

Taking a jump forward,.........I now work as a solo act playing in England & Scotland and around Ireland. In my spare time I try and spend a few hours in my purpose built recording studio I have at home. So!!! that was a brief summary of some of the fun I've had over the last thirty years, Would I change it all if I had to do it all over again?? I wouldn't change a single bit of it, in all the years I have being playing, I've met many people, made many friend's and as my father always said " If you can play an instrument, you'll never be short of money".

I hope this gives you an quick insight into the Journey I've had through the years and I hope the Journey I have ahead is as enjoyable and memorable as the last thirty years have been, to which it wouldn't be possible without the support and love of my wife Bernadette to whom I have been married to over the last 31 Years.

Thanks for taking the time to browse through my page and I hope I see you all in the near future.
